  • Eradicator's Origins

Today we’ll be covering a somewhat forgotten gem, called Eradicator, that was released back in 1996 to some varied reviews and almost complete overlook. A science-fiction first-person action game that took place in the future. Essentially the game was slated to be Acclaim’s answer to the sudden popularity of the FPS genre that was occurring at the time, however it ended up essentially flopping; either due to failure in marketing or heavy competition. It’s also worth mentioning that the game was released in the same year as both id Software’s Quake and 3D Realms’ Duke Nukem 3D, which essentially likely contributed to its poor performance.

With that history out of the way however, I’m happy to throw up a bit of information about the game that was shared by one of the developers. This is directly from the emails that were shared, albeit cleaned up and cut a little bit just to ensure the information is shared in as clear as form as possible. Grab the popcorn folks!

  • Project Overdrive

Overdrive was a game slated to be released back in 2000 but seemingly disappeared. In 2012 a build of it, which was supposedly a release candidate that was in the hands of a publisher, was leaked by a user of the name Torick.

I decided to record a video of this, though I don’t believe I did the game any favors. The game is actually quite complex; supposedly it’s playable from the first mission to the end, vehicles have per-vertex deformation, a lot of elements within the environment are destructible, characters use inverse kinematics for some interesting results, cars have a limited amount of petrol and need to be filled up, there’s a trading system in the game, you can customize your character, there’s supposedly support for multiplayer, shadow mapping, a completely dynamic lighting system that supported day and night cycles, it appears there were also multiple locations such as an island, there are no loading screens as the game attempts to stream in content during gameplay and seems to feature fairly complex AI for the time. Keep all this in mind and the fact that this was supposed to come out in 2000 and it’s very impressive from a technology standpoint.

Anyway with this out of the way, there’s multiple links you can download this from.

  • X-COM: Alliance - Some Random Footage

The following is some old footage I recorded of the cancelled X-COM: Alliance. This isn’t exactly anything new but hopefully this’ll bring in some feedback for the format and such I’m currently using; whether text or a voice-over might be better I don’t know yet, but I’d like to hear your thoughts.

Usually my idea was to publish anything I’d show on here but things are a bit of a mess with this. I’m quite sure there’s some links out there though for some cleaned up builds however for those that look hard enough and if I stumble on any such links myself then I’ll add them to this post. This isn’t to say I won’t be posting the builds on here eventually, it’s more just that I can likely put out better releases by focusing on single things more specifically, e.g. design documents and artwork.

Anyway hope you enjoy. This footage doesn’t cover as much as some of the videos originally released on the old channel but it should hopefully do for now.
